The "New York Times" on John Legend

medium_legend_cover.jpg"JOHN LEGEND was here on the Southeast swing of a whirlwind radio promotion tour for his new album, “Once Again” (Columbia), and the radio station WQNC-FM was holding a meet-and-greet luncheon for a few dozen giddy fans and the rhythm-and-blues star. It was the third station event of this early October day, yet Mr. Legend remained engaging and affable, posing for pictures and signing countless autographs. His one promotional weakness, if you could call it that, is not talking all-Legend-all-the-time. On the air, he waxed poetic about Bob Marley and serious about the economist Jeffrey D. Sachs, whose book “The End of Poverty” he was reading.

“You think that’s attainable?” asked the D.J., somewhat taken aback by the turn of the interview.

“Absolutely!” he said. “The end of poverty is an attainable goal. It just takes the will of the people.”

Clearly, Mr. Legend has more on his mind than promoting his latest CD." (click here for more)
